Dear Nolan -13 months

Dear Nolan,

Happy 13 months! At 13 months, you will not try to walk on your own. You do great holding on to me, dada and your push toys. You also enjoy standing up holding on to nothing at all for long periods of time, but you seem to have no desire to try to take off walking. You are very cautious. We can tell that you take your time to think about something before you do it and that is why I think you are not trying to walk. You are waiting until you are fully confident that you can do it on your own. That is fine with me; I am not forcing the issue as I realize one day you will no longer crawl around like your adorable little baby self.

You are starting to do really well with table foods! This is a major success because you are the pickiest little eater. I wonder who you get that from?? *me* I mean let’s be honest, what kid doesn’t love chicken nuggets and French fries?! You do love sandwiches, especially grilled cheese or ham and cheese. You also love bananas with peanut butter. Yes, we gave you peanut butter and you love the stuff! This makes your daddy very excited considering he consumes approximately 1 jar a day ;) ok maybe it is a few tablespoons, but it’s still a lot! Now the two of you share a banana and peanut butter together!

Here are some other dates I thought were worth remembering,
·         June 21, 2013 – You had your first taste of ice cream and….loved it!

·         June 26, 2013 – You had your first taste of a snowball and…loved it!

You have two more teeth that are just breaking through. That makes 6 total teeth at 13 months! Considering you had 2 teeth at your first birthday, I would definitely say they are all coming through now!

You are still a little peanut, but maybe now that you are starting to enjoy food more you will get a little chunkier! You wear 12-18 month clothing. All of your 18 month shorts have to be rolled in order to keep them from falling off of you. This goes for some of your 12 month shorts as well. Oh, and your 6-9 month bathing suit that still fits you…

You always seem to amaze us. You know what “no” means. When you are done with your bottles or eating you say “done” and raise your arms. If we offer you more you will shake “no” to us. It is amazing that you know the meaning of “no”, although we don’t necessarily know if this is a good thing. For example, last night Grandpa wanted to hold you and you shook “no” to him and then squeezed me. While I don’t mind that you wanted some time with mama, it seems way too smart for a 13 month old to comprehend what he does and does not want.

This morning daddy asked you if you wanted Cheerios and you proceeded to crawl to the cabinet that the Cheerios are kept and put out your little hand for him to get you some. You do a great job at communicating what you want!

We lay out your touch and feel flash cards and you are able to pick out the dog and ball for us. Although, a few times you have crawled over to an actual ball and grabbed that for us, but hey you still listened and knew what we were referring too! Your vocabulary continues to grow. When you get excited you have a little laugh that almost sounds fake, but isn’t and we love it! The other day I put on Sesame Street for you and you looked at me like I had four heads because it wasn’t Mickey Mouse. You proceeded to point to the t.v. and squeal “Mickey” although it sounds more like “keeeeey” which is super close to “geeee” which is what you call our dog, Chuggy. So really, only your daddy and I think your vocabulary is growing. ;)

You still nap twice a day and you go down for bed at night so easily. You know the routine and will fall asleep anywhere between 8-8:15PM and wake up between 6:30-7AM. And lastly, although you don’t always want to drink your milk you’re officially drink whole milk! Woo hoo baby boy we made it a little over a year!!! Believe me, that was a major accomplishment and I am so happy to say that I no longer wake up at 5:30-6AM to pump one of the 4-5 times throughout the duration of the day!
A little Friday night celebration! My first glass of wine and some Orioles baseball! :)
I love you so much big boy!

Love,
mommy

xoxo
